Nitra Bridge

Bridge no. 209, along with 11 other, smaller structures, is located along the Nitra–Selenec section of the R 1 Motorway in Slovakia. The bridge consists of two dilatation sections, which connect on the shared pillar no. 21. The bridge, whose total length is 1180 m, crosses a railway line, a main road and the Nitra river. The route crosses the suburbs of Nitra, where the high density of urban public utilities increased the difficulty of excavation significantly.

Type: incrementally launched, tensioned concrete, tensioned, cast-in-situ concrete

HÍD TRANSZ Kft.: transportation using self-loading trucks, special transportation, transportation of oversize and overweight loads;

G-HÍD Zrt.: foundation excavation; installation and operation of energy network for construction; construction of drinking and industrial water network; construction of temporary building;

The first part of the Nitra Bridge, the unit marked DC 1, is 806 metres long and consists of two separate, parallel bridge decks which were incrementally launched. The complete superstructure of a single bridge deck consists of 40 monolithic, post-tensioned blocks, whose length varies between 12 and 22.5 metres. The cross section is unicellular, with a constant height of 2.67 metres along the axis of the bridge.

The left and right decks were built in parallel with a small offset, using two production pads. The production pads are essentially the customary type, but the external formwork was built using lighter structure formwork.
DC 1 has twenty spans with an average span of 40 metres. It is so far the largest bridge that Hídépítő has built using the incremental launching method.

On pillar no. 21, this unit connects with the 2 nd dilatation unit (DC 2), which is 360 m long, has five spans and it is a classic cast-in-situ concrete structure with a full motorway cross-section, with a width of 26.5 m, and a triple box cross section and angled girders.
